01 · The brief

Philly shows up for its runners. We're giving that energy somewhere to go.

On marathon weekend the whole city is out cheering for people doing something hard. Shake & Ship opens Friday at 10:00 AM with a 30-minute shakeout. No pace to hit, walkers welcome. The point is to get comfortable around people you didn't know when you showed up.

After a break, the real work starts at noon: an open build session at the intersection of music and running. Producers next to runners next to builders. You don't need to code. Every participant starts in Lovable, which turns a plain-English description into a working app, so the idea is the hard part, and the person you ran next to might be the one who gets you unstuck.

Everyone has until 11:59 PM Saturday to ship. A panel of leaders picked by Nick and Manny reviews every project. Judging is the bonus. The point of the day is the people you build next to.

Come for a run. Leave with something you made.

Things you could build with Lovable.

Starting points, not assignments. Each one is a music x running idea that a non-coder can get working in an afternoon by describing it to Lovable. Bring your own idea and steal the pieces.

Lovable

Lovable turns a plain-English description into a working web app with the screens, database, sign-in and hosting included. Lovable Cloud is the built-in backend, Lovable AI adds voice, music and image models with no API keys, and the code syncs to GitHub if a developer ever wants to take over. Every registered participant gets Lovable credits by email before Friday.

Two guys who show up for their cities.

Pittsburgh and Philadelphia sit at opposite ends of the same state and spend most of the year acting like the other one isn't there. Nick and Manny have both spent years giving people in their city a reason to show up for each other. Shake & Ship puts a run and a build in the same day so the people who show up for one meet the people who show up for the other.

Nick Merich

Founder, GRYT

Started GRYT with his wife Laura in Pittsburgh: a free Saturday run on the Montour Trail where walkers, joggers and runners do hard things together every week. Produced Run Takoma With Love in DC. Has been in the Philadelphia Marathon training block all fall and will be the first one at the shakeout.

Nick was in Lovable's first cohort two years ago. He has watched it grow from a prompt box into the full-stack builder every participant will open on Friday, which is a big part of why Lovable is in the room.

Founder, What I Wish I Knew Foundation

Emmanuel "Manny215" Clark is Philadelphia born and building for it. A recording artist and community organizer, he founded the What I Wish I Knew Foundation in 2019 to pay forward the lessons he wishes someone had handed him: economic skills, conflict resolution, a reason to stay in the game. The Philadelphia Eagles named him their 2025 Inspire Change Changemaker.

Manny brings the city: the people, the places and the reason the shakeout starts here and not in a hotel lobby. The four words he gives students apply to the build too: commit, execute, discipline, expand.

How it came together · 01

A run that always ends with "what are you working on?"

GRYT's Saturday run is free and ends with coffee, and the conversation after the miles kept turning into side projects. Nick wanted a day where that second half had tools, time and a deadline.

How it came together · 02

Lovable said yes in August

Lovable approved Shake & Ship as a GRYT x Lovable event on August 14 and signed on as Community Co-Lead: the starting tool for every builder, with credits for every participant.

How it came together · 03

Manny made it Philly

A run in a hotel lobby is a hotel run. Manny's community work across the city is why the shakeout starts on Philadelphia pavement, with Philadelphia people, on the Friday the whole city is thinking about 26.2.
